Terracotta Diya Pinwheel – Handmade Clay Diya Set for Diwali

This is the Pinwheel diya — a spiral of petals turning out from the centre. Because it is moulded from real clay and then kiln fired, the raised detail stays sharp instead of softening. Also, we leave it unpainted, so you get the natural terracotta colour rather than a sprayed finish.

Pinwheel terracotta diyas are about 3 inch across and weigh roughly 25 g each. Additionally, the centre well is cut deep, so it holds enough oil or ghee for a long evening. Wick and oil are not included, which means you can use your own.

Features of the Pinwheel diya

Every piece is hand moulded, so no two are identical. Moreover, small variations in colour and rim height are normal in fired clay and are not defects.

The base is flat and wide. Furthermore, that keeps the diya stable on a doorstep, a windowsill or a rangoli border, even outdoors.

Why real clay, not plastic or resin

Clay takes heat. Plastic does not. In addition, a fired clay diya can be washed, dried and used again next year, and it goes back into the ground when you are done with it.

Therefore, a terracotta diya is both the traditional choice and the practical one.

Where people use them

Line a doorway. Edge a rangoli. Keep one lit in the mandir through the evening. Finally, they look good unlit too, so many people leave them out as table decor after Diwali.
